Apple is likely to announce the iPhone 5 next week, with iOS 6, the latest version of the iPhones and iPads operating system, soon afterwards and along with it some great new features.
One of these has already been seen in the wild, Apple’s Passbook app, stores digital boarding passes, cinema tickets and loyalty and membership cards, and is also seen as the first tentative steps into making your phone into your e-wallet.
Virgin Australia has already started rolling out Passbook compatible boarding passes, with United Airlines committed to supporting them as well. These e-passes, detected automatically by the app, provide all the usual boarding card details along with live updates of information like gate numbers, any delays and more.
We’re really excited by this technology and are looking at opportunities to apply our development experience with Passbook already, and other e-wallet technologies, in both new projects and extending existing websites and apps for clients.
If you own a business that provides tickets and membership cards etc you should be exploring Passbook soon.
