Along with the other exciting news from Google IO such as the latest version of Android named Jelly Bean, a well specified and cheap 7″ tablet and events in Google+, today they announced that the Google Chrome web browser is coming to Apple’s iOS iPad and iPhone.

Providing a great alternative to Apple’s already excellent mobile Safari browser,  Google Chrome for iOS will bring with it support for Chrome sync so that if you’re using Chrome on your desktop computer too, you’ll have all your bookmarks, searches and much better compatibility with Google Docs.

We’re excited because the webkit engine that powers both Safari and Chrome offers the best in breed feature-sets for developers and users alike. HTML5, fast JavaScript and hardware accelerated extensions mean better web sites and web app experiences for everyone!

Chrome for iOS should be available for download later tonight…
