New data from OnSwipe show that mini tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7 are delivering a 20% increase in page views and time spent on site.

Whilst mobile site design, that takes into account the small screens on iPhones, has been around a while, they are often for those “need info now” moments and usage is often fleeting. The new post-pc devices encourage long form reading and sites with good well presented information will benefit with longer engagement times, more exploration and loyalty.

The cheaper price of the mini tablets has seen a large growth in this area of the market, set to become even bigger with the expected launch of Apple’s iPad mini.

Developing for the Mini Tablets

Companies looking to take advantage of this new size won’t necessarily need a brand new site. A number of changes can be made which will make work better across smaller tablets allowing you to take advantage in this growth.

With 3 different screen sizes for Apple devices, and several screen sizes for Android ‘phones and Tablets, optimising for each size can become a challenge. With a responsive website design you can ensure that your site will automatically optimise for the screen resolution.
